The Steuben Red Barons is a group of remote control aircraft enthusiasts and is chartered by the Academy of Model Aeronautics, Club Number 4854. The club encourages newcomers and provides an opportunity for pilots of all abilities to enjoy a fun day of flying or watching others fly. Although our flying field is no longer located in the Steuben Valley, it is easily accessible and provides a great site for model aviation. All our members must belong to AMA for safety and insurance reasons. Guests are welcomed with a club sponsor.
Don't forget the club meeting on Monday, August 19th at 6:30. It will be held at the club field if the weather is good. Otherwise we will meet at the Marcy Tavern 6305 State Route 291
Field Report 08/09/2019 - The field is in great shape and was mowed today.
The mowing schedule is filled until September. Check the Members' Schedules Tab above for a list of available dates from September on. EMail info@OurRCClub.org with the date(s) you want, or give Bob a call at 315-896-2545.
AMA District 2 Annual Fly-in August 31 - Spetember 1. The following information is provided by Paul Vacko, STARS President
I'm writing today to pass along information on this year's annual District 2 Fly-in.
This year the District II Annual Fly-in will be held at Syracuse Thunderbirds Aero Radio Society (STARS, club charter 473) in Phoenix, NY, over Labor Day weekend, August 31st and September 1st. This is a combination event, coinciding with our club's annual RC Model Airshow, which is normally held on the Sunday of Labor Day weekend. We also have a Facebook event setup at https://www.facebook.com/events/1193967210768492/. Please share it far and wide. Our club's Facebook page is https://www.facebook.com/groups/amastars. And our website is at http://www.amadistrictiistars.org.
We have plenty of space for parking, as well as RVs and primitive camping. No hookups are available. Please contact us if you intend to arrive before August 31.
The event schedule is:
Saturday: Gates will open by 8AM. The flying begins at 9AM, after a short pilot safety meeting. Saturday will be open flying, unless some people want to practice their demonstration flight routines for Sunday's airshow demo hour, in which case we will set aside dedicated field time as needed. Lunch on Saturday will be free to registered pilots (registration is free and onsite, no online/pre-registration is available) courtesy of the district. All other on-site meals (Saturday dinner and Sunday lunch) are at cost. We will have a BBQ dinner on Saturday evening along with music provided by DJ Midnite Rambler.
Sunday: Electric flying can start at 9AM, but fuel powered models must wait until 10AM. We will have a pilot safety meeting just before 9AM, once again. Being our normal airshow day, there will be a period of time roughly from noon to 1PM when the field is closed for demonstration flights. If you're interested in flying a demo flight for the spectators (this even is open to the public) and your fellow RC pilots, there will be a signup sheet available. And as mentioned, if you want some time on Saturday to practice your routine with a clear flight line that can be arranged.
We are excited to have this opportunity, after having hosted the inaugural District 2 Fly-in several years ago, to once again host this event. We look forward to welcoming you and your members for a great Labor Day weekend of flying!
We are a group of RC Airplane enthusiasts, flying both electric and fuel powered models. We have monthly meetings (except for December and January) on the third Monday of each month.
We accept anyone with a current membership in the Academy of Model Aeronautics. Current club membership dues for adults are $75, youth memberships through the age of 18, are free.
